nice layout
first time playing at this course, beautiful settings, greens were fast but needs more yardage markers
Great value
The course is not overly difficult, but just quirky enough to make it tough to figure the first time around. Very few drivers needed for the long hitters.
Enjoyable layout. course condition getting better.
I read the many negative reviews regarding poor course conditions. After playing the course, those comments are long out of date. The layout is challenging. The greens were in very good condition. Approach shots stopped and putts rolled true. The fairways were in very nice shape. The rough and some tees need work. I grade this course a c+. With a little more improvement it would rate a b+ and I am a tough grader.
Good challenge for the price
The course is undergoing some changes and restoration to get it back to it's previous playability. Most of the fairways and greens are good condition. Some have a few problems with weeds. Drainage seems to be an issue in a lot of places, as there were a number of bare spots in the rough and few in the fairways. Cart paths are pretty bad in some spots with large chunks of concrete missing or sunken. The ponds/water hazards look to be very hazardous as most are covered with a layer of algae. The layout is interesting and the design can offer a challenge depending on your style and level of play. If they keep up the maintenance and keep improving the grounds it'll be a very nice place to play before long. Lack of a practice area is a bit of a deterrent though.
Great for the Hot Deal Price
First time on course.... Nice layout, many blind shots. Decent course for the price.
The course is in need of some TLC.
The greens were very bumpy and slow. Cart paths are very rough and broken. I like the layout of the course. Course management is a must in order to score well here.
Nice course, close to home
My son and I have been playing Deer Run most every Sunday this summer. The course has been in great shape and the staff is very friendly. They are working very hard to to improve course conditions an amenities from where they had been.
Most Sundays we have been able to get our round in on time, not too much slow play.
I'm looking forward to playing there again this Sunday.
Give the course a try, I thin you will enjoy it.
nice course but needs attention
hornets are tearing up the greens. bathrooms could use upgraded
fair but challenging
For a course that was recently on its deathbed, the turnaround has been little short of a miracle. Well maintained fairways, true greens with no major blemishes, and nice flat tee boxes. I highly recommend the course. For the golfnow rate, it is very tough to beat.
Only 2 complaints. The food, while tasty, took WAY too long to prepare. The other is that they need to rethink the way they guide you around the course. First timers will be very confused by the signage leading from one hole to the next.
Course needs attention
The course is lacking maintenance and care in the fairways and greens. #2 green is nearly impossible to putt due to ground hornets burrowing into the green. A lot of grass clippings piled up on the first cut in fairways, and weeds out growing the fairway grass. Deer Run used to be one of the best kept courses on the west side of cincinnati. I was really disappointed with the course conditions. Not worth playing!
Great value using GolfNow.
Pretty challenging course with a LOT of elevation changes and blind shots. Fairways have landing areas that must be hit or else trouble lies will result. Most greens relatively flat and in good condition. Some nice vistas overlooking the Ohio river on the front nine. Got a great GolfNow rate on a Wednesday afternoon. Not too crowded.
Very good shape for middle of July!!!!
Besides being so hot,(tee time was 12:39) it was a great time and the course was in very good condition
Pretty Nice
The course still needs a little bit of work. Most especially around the greens on a few holes. But overall it's a nice course to play on for varying levels. Great value and friendly people.
Good course for the money!
Course is not too long, but challenging enough to make things fun. Good hilltop views of the river. Friendly staff.
Lots of hills.
Course terrain consists mostly of hills and varying elevations. Course was a little dry and rough in spots but fairways and greens were pretty well maintained. Tried to play twilight golf for 18 holes but barely finished 9 holes in 3 hours due to getting stuck behind league players who don't know how to keep pace.
Great course with beautiful scenery
For my level of play (I golf every week) I consider this a great course for the price. It has its challenging holes, as well as the "grip it and rip it" holes. The staff is always super friendly, and the course is well maintained. I enjoy coming here, and will continue in the future.
great course
Course was in great condition. Very creative layout and deceptively long from the back. A couple very challenging holes with elevated greens. Placement off the tee is key. Only downside was it can be confusing in between holes with the way the course is laid out. Overall it is a great course.
The course looks much better than from a year ago
The tee boxes and fairways looked and played great but the greens are still a bit rough in spots. Id say this course will play fantastic and be well worth playing by this fall 2013. The course has really made some major improvements from a year ago...
Good Course, slow pace of play
Deer Run has come a long way in the past year. It is under new ownership, and is clear the owners have put a lot of money into the course. I live on the Westside, and this is on of the closest courses to me.The greens are returning to their former great condition, and the fairways are beautiful. The layout is a little odd, and they are in the process of reversing the nines. There are some nice holes, but some really poorly designed holes as well. Personally, I never like ending a round on a par 3. That aside, the biggest problem with Deer Run the past few times I have played there is the pace of play -- SLOW! My daughter and I got there on a Sunday afternoon, and it took us 2 1/2 hours to play the first nine and 3 hours to play the back. If you go during the week, you may get in a 4 hour round, but don't count on it. They do have rangers out on the course, but they didn't seem to help the pace at all. When we made the turn to the second nine there were 3 groups waiting on the tee. I would recommend the course from a condition stand point. I would also say that the holes that are currently 16, 17, and 18 are some of the prettiest and most challenging holes in Cincinnati. Also, the staff is very friendly and helpful. However, they must do something about the pace of play; 5+ hour rounds are ridiculous.
Average
I paid $29 to ride 18 at Deer Run at 7:20am. This is the most I have had to pay at this course in years. The course was well maintained with the exception of some greens. Due to convenience I will return, but I do not think the course is worth that price.
