California Golf Course
About
The California Golf Course sits on land that slopes gently and offers a nice view of the Ohio River; however, this course ain't just pretty to look at, but laid out to play in a manner that will test seasoned golfers and welcome novices to the friendly golf course where the trees are old growth.
California Golf Course provides 18 holes of par-71 golf over 6,227 yards. A round of golf kicks off on a par-4 hole that plays to 367 yards from the Blue tees. Because this is one of Cincinnati's longer municipal golf courses, power golfers will appreciate the chance to open up their games a bit more, with about a third of the holes measuring over 400 yards from the Blue tees, including a pair of par-5 holes, the second and ninth holes.
As the California Golf Course is a municipal golf course, expect low rates, and those who can swing a round of golf during the workweek can expect them to be even lower.

Great short course
First off, I/we have played California GC many times.
I was lucky to find a slot for two on Labor Day. Arrived early, got to tee off approx. 20 min. ahead of schedule. Unfortunately, we caught a foursome on the 3rd hole. Between the rain delays, and the BAD foursome, the front nine took what my son and I can normally play 18 holes in. Fortunately, the group went in to get refreshments at the turn so we continued to the back nine. The weather had broken by this point and it turned out to be a beautiful day. We caught another foursome on maybe 12 or 13, and they were polite and let us play through.
We finished the back 9 in about an hour and ten min.
Re-registered and played the front again....Just a note, we played the back and six holes on the front again before "our" foursome made it to the 18th hole..... Overall, a great day of golf with my son....But, it always is..
Very Nice
Course is in excellent condition. A lot of trees and different holes setup. Looking forward to playing here again.
Got Caught in Leagues
Got to our tee time 30 mins earlier and was sent off the back. Completed the back in an hour and fifteen minutes. Then it was time to turn to the front and had to wait 40 minutes for leagues to tee off and then had a log jam on the front part resulting in an overall time of play being 5 1/2 hours. Great staff and understand leagues but even if I played the front to the back I might have been waiting longer.
A good challenge
Nice course, has some very challenging holes. Course management is key, small greens with lots of undulations. Played a little longer because of the wind and rain the night before( no Roll) all in all nice and challenging and the price was right 27.50 to ride 18.
Good course
Course was in great shape for mid-march... Only complaint was the $9.96 Golf Now fee. i was told this should be free
Creative Course
Grounds are kept in good shape. Much better shape than most other CRC courses. Nice view with creative holes. Overall a good course for the moderate, price conscientious player.
Slowwwww
5 hours to play 18. We had a 5 some playing two groups ahead and the flies and bugs were ripping our legs and arms apart. But that's the river. Staff was very short with me. 1 hamburger was 5 dollars and energy drink was 5 dollars. I will never book here again. Too many other nice courses with great rates and friendly staff elsewhere
Hi
California, oh how you make it so hard to like you. I have never had any issues with the staff at any of the CRC courses this particular time included.
The course really wasn't even in that bad of condition. The greens were lightning quick though. It seems as if people take the time to repair their ball marks, and given their typical clientele, that actually shocks me.
I mostly get frustrated at California with the issue of pace of play. It did take our twosome just over 4.5 hours to play. Normally i would be able to accept that but out tee time was 7:30 am. There were two groups ahead of us. Did not even consider letting anybody through.
Long story short is that I guess I would play it just to know what I am talking about. The course is always crazy busy, and if you live anywhere but lower east side of CIncinnati it is a challenge to get to.
Dont even get me start on the condition of the cart paths either.
Needs work
We played in late May and the course already showed bald patches in the rough. Moreover, the course was so dry cracks had formed in the ground, even in the fairway. The tee box for #13 had very few patches of grass to tee From. We paid $41 to try a new course and will not be going back. The layout was unique and challenging for many holes but there was very poor value for the dollar. I would believe, for the conditions, it should have been a $25 round of golf.
